ALSTOM Switzerland has won three orders for bogies worth a total of approximately 17 million euros.
For the SBB Intercity fleet
As part of two orders for the SBB, the Swiss national railway company, ALSTOMs facilities in Neuhausen will build 60 bogies for 30 steering cars and 42 bogies for 21 double-deck cars. The driver-cab signaling equipment for the steering cars will be supplied by ALSTOMs facilities in Charleroi, Belgium.
The SBB ordered the 30 IC-Bt EW IV steering cars and the 21 IC-2000 double-deckers from a consortium consisting of ALSTOM and Bombardier on December 20, 2002. The new cars will reinforce the SBBs intercity fleet as the railway pursues its Rail 2000 modernization project.
For Tram 2000 in Zurich
On December 16, 2002, the VBZ, the Zurich transport authority, ordered 22 bogies for its Tram 2000.
The VBZ is increasing the length of 22 tramsets with a 7.5-meter long, low-floor intermediate section. The extension will increase capacity by 21 seats and will make access much easier for passengers with wheelchairs or passengers with baby carriages.
With more than 35 product lines and a presence in over 60 countries, ALSTOM's Transport Sector offers cutting-edge products and services to four distinct types of customers: urban transit authorities and operators; intercity passenger rail operators and rolling stock owners; rail freight operators; and intercity railway infrastructure owners.
