The power plant consists of four 300 MW lignite-fired boilers built in the mid-80s and one 365 MW unit built in the late-90s.

The contract was awarded to the ALSTOM / METKA consortium, for a total order value of 130 million euros, of which ALSTOM's share is 41 million euros. Scope of supply includes new electrostatic precipitators, a fly ash handling system and a flue gas heat recovery system.

The retrofit of the ESP plant will be executed by ALSTOM Environmental Control Systems, and works are scheduled to begin by 2005.

The new equipment will substantially reduce fly ash emissions from the stacks and will thus meet EU air pollution control regulations for lignite-fired power plants.

The customer's choice of awarding the contract to the ALSTOM / METKA consortium was the innovative solution proposed at a competitive cost/performance ratio.

This is the third contract that the ALSTOM / METKA consortium has won to supply air pollution control equipment to PPC.
