ALSTOM has been awarded a contract by Calaveras Power Partners to design, manufacture and supply a wet flue gas desulfurization (WFGD) system and fabric filter for the J.K. Spruce 2 power plant to be located in San Antonio, Texas, USA. The power plant is owned and operated by CPS Energy.
Scheduled to begin commercial operation in 2010, the new unit is designed to burn low-sulfur Powder River Basin coal. The WFGD and fabric filter systems are designed to control sulfur dioxide and particulate emissions.
Earlier this year, ALSTOM was awarded the contract to supply the 750 MW boiler and selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system. The boiler is equipped with ALSTOMs TFS 2000® tangential firing system, which, coupled with the SCR, is expected to achieve the lowest NOx emissions of any coal-fired plant in the USA.
The Spruce 2 boiler will be located adjacent to the existing Spruce Unit 1, for which ALSTOM supplied the boiler and WFGD system in 1988.
