Alstom to equip Metro de Malaga with Urbalis CBTC, train
control solution

The key technological feature of the Urbalis CBTC signalling
system is that it uses a wireless communication system. This type
of technology is becoming the standard for all railway transport
systems, both urban and mainline.

 The scope of the contract covers a complete Urbalis
^TM solution including: the CBTC, the
state-of-the-art Wireless LAN (WLAN) for train control, the
Smartlock 400
^TM interlocking, the trackside equipment, and
also the Automatic Train Supervision. Urbalis
^TM is a flexible solution with a low Life Cycle Cost
(LCC) that can meet the requirements of light transit and metro
networks, and at all different levels of automation. For Metro Malaga, the CBTC functionality offers optimum
train performance in tunnel sections together with the maximum
safety standards for its operation thanks to the ATP (Automatic
Train Protection). In addition, Urbalis
^TM enhances operation in the manually driven at-grade
sections. It supplies over-speed protection, door opening
authorisation, and priority at road crossing.
