Alstom awarded 56 million euro contract for metro car
refurbishment in Mexico

Mexico City Metro is Mexicos largest metro system and
the fourth largest in the world, providing service to the Mexican
Federal District and surrounding municipalities in the State of
Mexico. Alstom will replace the existing propulsion systems with its
proven, compact and lightweight computer-based propulsion
technology. This will reduce the fleets energy consumption
and future maintenance costs, while improving overall
reliability. The power control systems will be provided by Alstoms
site in Ridderkerk, Netherlands, while ALSTOM will carry out the
propulsion system manufacture and installation primarily at the
Mexico City Metro
's Ticoman facility, north of Mexico City.
Deliveries are scheduled from August 2007 through February
2008. Alstom, which has served the Mexican market for nearly 40
years, provides maintenance for 450 locomotives owned by
Mexicos major freight operators. Alstom is one of the
leading suppliers of metros in the world. One in four metro cars
is an Alstom vehicle, which operate in more than 40 cities. Each
year, 6 billlion passengers are transported by Alstom -built
