Located on Swedens east coast, the Forsmark nuclear power station generates one sixth of the countrys total electricity requirements. With nuclear and hydropower making up 90% of its installed energy base, Swedish electricity production is up to 97% CO2-free, giving Sweden a leading position in Europe with respect to EU carbon reduction targets.

The scope of Alstoms order includes delivery, erection & commissioning of a new 1,500 MW turbo generator, as well as auxiliary equipment such as the excitation system, hydrogen system, oil system and cooling water system. The generator replaces the existing 1,200 MW Alstom-delivered machine that entered service in 1985. The driver for this retrofit project are the plans of the customer to increase the reactor load of the unit. Equipment delivery is scheduled for March 2014, and installation will be finalised in August 2014.

This order clearly underlines the success of Alstoms strategy to be the leading provider for the international nuclear industry, comments Philippe Joubert, President of Alstom Power. Alstom is proud continue its contribution to the production of CO2-free energy in Sweden.

"Forsmark has a wide and positive experience of Alstom's products and services. Therefore, it is very satisfying that we have reached a common agreement regarding delivery of a new generator for Forsmark 3. We will now cooperate to make this project successful for both parties," says Stefan Persson, CEO, Forsmark AB.

Alstom is the worlds leading supplier of conventional islands for nuclear power plants, and has fitted approximately 180 units around the globe. More than 30% of the worlds nuclear power plants operate using Alstom-made equipment.
