Alstom, a global leader in power generation equipment and services, has signed a close to 50 million contract with China State Development and Investment Corporation (SDIC), to supply 2x660MW Steam Turbine Generator units for a fossil fuel power plant in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, China. The power plant, located in Hami, will be the first 600MW size power plant in Xinjiang, China with supercritical steam conditions designed for leading efficiency and lower carbon emissions.
As one of the regions in China which boasts ample coal resources, Xinjiang is considered to be a key region for power supply development under Chinas Twelfth Five-year Plan. Many coal-fired power plants are planned to be built to meet the target of having more than 50GW installed capacity by the end of 2015. The new 2x660MW Hami power plant is a key project under this plan and will supply power to address the increasing needs for electricity in Chinas central provinces. The plant will be completed in 2014.
Under the terms of the contract, Alstom will design, manufacture, supply, supervise installation, test and commission the two 660 MW Steam Turbine Generator units.
We are honoured to be chosen by SDIC as a key equipment supplier thanks to our advanced technology, high performance and low maintenance and good service, said Andreas Lusch, Senior Vice President of Alstoms Steam business. The new contract further strengthens Alstoms position in Chinas power generation market and is a true testimony of our customers confidence in Alstoms technology and services, he added.
All major components will be manufactured and provided by Alstoms turbine factory Alstom Beizhong Power (Beijing) Co., Ltd (ABP). ABP is one of the most important sites in China for steam turbines and generators and has the manufacturing capacity for sub-critical, supercritical and ultra-supercritical steam turbines and generators (from 600MW up to 1000MW). The site recently has supplied 12×600MW steam turbine and generator sets to six thermal plants - Longshan, Pingwei II, Dabieshan, Pingliang II, Guixi and Shentou.
