Environmental footprint

The Company made operational and environmental excellence one of its five strategic pillars. In this context and further to the Energy activities transfer to General Electric, the Company set new environmental targets for 2020, taking 2014 as the reference year.

Actions are directed towards 5 main objectives in order to reduce its environmental footprint:

Environmental objectives are deployed within the organisation, and results are reviewed at the same frequency and in the same internal governance committees as for financial results reviews. Environmental indicators also allow regular monitoring of progress through a quarterly scoreboard presented to the top management and communicated to all sites and project managers. The EHS (“Environment, Health & Safety”) organisation made of a network about 200 professionals supports deployment of internal standards, as well as assessments and training programmes in the Regions and centrally.

Alstom adheres to the appropriate environmental standards – ISO or equivalent – for each area of its activity. As of March 2016, 100% of the manufacturing sites with over 200 employees and 60% of the Regional Centers with over 200 employees have been certified ISO 14001 in line with the global objective to achieve ISO 14001 certification for the company as a whole by the end of 2020.
