Health and Safety Policy (EHS)

Our commitment is to give all Alstom employees and all people working under Alstom’s responsibility the best and safest working conditions everywhere in the world. This is a keystone of our CSR policy in the way we operate.

Our ambition

We aim to be recognized as the best Safety player in the Railway Industry.

  • Achieving and sustaining Zero Severe Accidents
  • Achieving an Injury Frequency Rate* at 1 in 2020

Our ambition concerns both Alstom employees and contractors and is supported by a 3-year strategic plan.

Our initiatives for occupational safety

Further strengthen our Safety Managerial Practices

  • At all levels of the organization, safety objectives are deployed and progress regularly reviewed in business results reviews.
  • Our managers are trained to deliver safety observation visits aiming at reinforcing safe behaviours and instilling a Positive Safety Culture within the organisation.

Common set of Safety processes and Standards within the Organization

  • With the Alstom Zero Deviation Plan, we deploy a strict and common approach focused on the control of our most hazardous activities.
  • We have in place a strong REX (Return of Experience) process to learn from any potentially severe accident/incident.
  • We deploy a centrally managed audit plan to measure and treat any gap towards our internal standards

Engaging people

  • On top of all regulatory trainings, we develop our own Safety learning initiatives specifically adapted to the target audience and to our risks (ex: “Day to day Risk Management”, “Railway Environment Safety risks”, etc.)
  • We have strong requirements to improve Safety for Contractors
  • We deploy internal communication initiatives to support our Safety Plan and promote Positive Safety Culture: local or global Safety Challenges, Health& Safety Days, etc.

Safety People

  • Our network of about 200 EHS professionals has close proximity with operations, is risk-focused and supports managers in achieving safety results.
