Guaranteed operational reliability with an availability in excess of 99% soon on the Donautalbahn as well.

For about one year, the electric multiple unit Coradia Continental by Alstom has been in operation successfully by agilis in and around Regensburg. With availability in excess of 99% and a running performance of more than three million kilometres in total (1), it guarantees for reliable train operation for the subsidiary of BeNEX GmbH. The trains were approved by the Eisenbahnbundesamt (EBA) in December 2010, in time to take up operation; they reach a maximum speed of 160 km/h and are characterised by smooth running and suitability for winter operation.

In December 2011, agilis will take up the second operating stage of the "Region Mitte": The route is expanded to reach from Ingolstadt to Ulm the so called Donautalbahn. It will increase the route length to a total of 449 kilometres and the annual train mileage to 5.5 mio. kilometres. At this time, agilis operates the routes from Plattling to Neumarkt in der Oberpfalz and from Landshut to Ingolstadt in the "Region Mitte". An online reservation system for the new route will be set up and ready in time for operation to be taken up.

"Taking up operation of the Donautalbahn next December will soon permit even more travellers in Bavaria to enjoy the agilis driving experience. The recent third place in the quality ranking of the Bayrische Eisenbahngesellschaft (BEG) confirms our previous success. Alstom trains will continue to run on this new route as well. They continue to pay off for us in matters of delivery quality and performance", says Dietmar Knerr, chief manager of agilis Eisenbahngesellschaft mbH & Co. KG.

The 26 three- and four-part regional multiple units in the Regensburg e-grid were developed and produced by Alstom in Salzgitter. Deliveries started in late 2010. Many sub-suppliers, e.g. for brake system and seats, are from Bavaria. The modular construction offers operators best flexibility in train configuration, also comprising a wide pallet of interior design. Due to brake energy recovery, the train requires approx. 30% less energy. Hazardous substance and noise emission are clearly reduced while use of hazardous-substance-free materials makes the train recyclable at up to 95%.

"The Coradia Continental is a perfectly environmentally friendly train that proves its reliability in any weather. With this train, Alstom is best prepared for the upcoming invitations for tender for electrical route grids throughout Germany", says Dr. Martin Lange, as member of the board of Alstom Deutschland AG responsible for Transport.

To this day, Alstom has delivered 141 electrical regional trains type Coradia Continental to three train traffic companies in Germany. The first vehicles have been in use successfully since 2008 in and around Augsburg. Since Mid-2010, they have also been running between Munich and Passau, as well as transporting passengers between Würzburg and Nuremberg. At the same time as in Regensburg, they were taken into operation by the Regio-S-Bahn Bremen in December 2010.
