Alstom Grid, through its Indian subsidiary Areva T&D India Limited*, has been awarded contracts worth around 30 million by Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PowerGrid), one of the worlds leading power transmission utilities, for the supply, erection and commissioning of a 765kV Extra High Voltage substation including transformers. The substation will be located at Bareily in the Uttar Pradesh State (India).

Under the terms of the new contract, Alstom Grid will deliver the 765 kV transformers for this substation, manufactured locally in Alstom Grids factory located at Vadodara. This factory, inaugurated in March 2009, is one of the eight Alstom Grid manufacturing units in India set up to meet the future needs of the country, as the transmission voltages move to Extra (765 kV) and Ultra High Voltage levels (up to 1,200 kV). The other world-class 765 kV products for the substation will be delivered from Alstom Grids manufacturing facilities located at Padappai (Chennai), Pallavaram (Chennai), Hosur (Tamilnadu) and Noida.

While the Indian power generation market typically increases by around 8% per year (CAGR1), the power transmission market is growing even more strongly at approximately 10% due to investment in Extra High Voltage transmission network to improve the Indian inter-state electricity grid.

Grégoire Poux-Guillaume, Alstom Grid President, declared, Alstom Grid is committed to support PowerGrid in their development initiatives to build Extra and Ultra High Voltage transmission networks in India. We have already signed a Memorandum of Understanding at the end of July 2011 to collaborate on 1200 kV technology with PowerGrid and this contract reinforces the leading role we continue to play in delivering 765kV technologies.

*Important Note:

The high voltage activities described in this press release are under the operational control of Alstom Grid and carried out in India through Areva T&D India limited, a company publicly listed on the stock exchanges of India. On 7 June 2010, the global activities of Areva T&D were acquired by a consortium of Alstom and Schneider Electric. Following this acquisition, the High Voltage Transmission and the Power Electronics activities are to be carried on under the control of Alstom and the Medium Voltage activities under control of Schneider Electric.

In India on 3 December 2010, following the conclusion of a mandatory tender offer, Alstom and Schneider Electric announced that they had assumed operational control of Areva T&D India. The respective businesses will now be segregated in terms of a scheme of arrangement through a court process.

However, Areva T&D India will continue to operate under the Areva T&D name, until the appropriate judicial process has been completed according to Indian regulations.
