Haliade 150-6MW: assembling the prototype

Alstom is on track with the development of the first Haliade 150-6MW offshore wind turbine. The turbine features a robust, simple and efficient design to increase energy yield and reliability to reduce the cost of energy of offshore wind.

The turbine also features a 150m-rotor diameter to maximise the harvest of energy, a permanent magnet generator and a direct-drive technology coupled with the unique ALSTOM PURE TORQUE® technology for drive train reliability.

The first two units will be installed onshore and offshore in early and mid-2012 respectively, followed by a pre-series in 2013 and series production in 2014.

Robust with ALSTOM PURE TORQUE®

The Haliade 1506MW features Alstoms Unique ALSTOM PURE TORQUE technology for drive train reliability - proven onshore since 1984.

The PURE TORQUE design protects the generator and improves its performance by diverting unwanted stresses from the wind safely to the turbines tower through the
main frame. The design separates the turbine rotor and generator to ensure that only turning force torque is transferred to the generator.

Simple direct drive permanent magnet generator (PMG)

With no mechanical gearbox coupled to the generator, the turbine consists of fewer rotating parts, increasing reliability, maximising turbine availability and reducing maintenance costs. The use of a PMG leads to better generation efficiencies and even greater overall mechanical reliability, which is critical in offshore wind where reliability is fundamental.

Efficient high energy yield

Using 73.5m turbine blades, jointly developed with LM Wind Power, the 150m rotor diameter combined with 6 MW rated power maximises the capture of energy.

Strength and durability are maximised in an exceptionally light blade uniquely developed for the Haliade 150. For a 6 MW turbine the new blade and larger rotor swept area improve annual energy production by 15% compared to the current generation of offshore turbines.

Alstoms experts share their expertise at EWEA Offshore 2011.
