The year 2011 witnesses the 30th anniversary of National Compulsory Tree Planting Campaign in China. Moreover, the year was declared by UN as the International Year of Forests to raise awareness on conservation and sustainable development of all types of the forests. Beijing municipal government has accordingly launched the 2011 International Year of Forests - Beijing Action to increase the green spaces in the city, improve the suburban ecosystem development and create a better living conditions for people in the capital. After plantation, the Alstom Forest will be maintained by the Afforestation Office of Beijing Mentougou District Government. In the mean time, Beijing Afforestation Foundation will provide ongoing supervision on the project to ensure the survival of the trees and thriving growth of the forest.

Thanks to the employees dedication, the Alstom Forest Project further demonstrates Alstoms fulfilment of our corporate responsibilities to put our environmental preservation commitment into real action, said Dominique Jaoul, secretary of the Alstom Foundation and Corporate Responsibility Programme Director.

The Alstom Forest Project is a true testimony of Alstoms commitment to environmental preservation and cope with the challenge of climate change by cutting emission and planting trees, which puts the Copenhagen summit spirit into practice. The forest is bound to contribute to the capitals green environment. Moreover, it will serve as a tie, connecting the friendship between Beijing Afforestation Foundation and the Alstom Foundation, said Xiangyi Lin, Head of Beijing Afforestation Foundation Council..

Sustainable development being the heart of its strategy, Alstom has always committed to honour its corporate responsibility. In 2007, Alstom set up a Foundation to support creative initiatives taken in the area of environmental protection. With the continuous support of Alstom Foundation, Alstom has successfully launched several environmental protection projects in China. In response to the Chinese government decision to ban the free distribution plastic bags, Alstom initiated the Green Shopping Bag Project in 2008, in which 40,000 free shopping bags were given to the employees to encourage the use of reusable shopping. Also in 2008, Alstom Foundation and the Nature Conservancy (TNC) launched the Biodiversity Conservation in Northwest Yunnan - Meili Mountain and Laojun Mountain Project to establish a new conservation mechanism which benefits the nature, ecosystems, communities and local culture at the time of economic development.

Alstom commits to providing market leading power and transport products, systems and services to communities across the globe in a responsible and sustainable way to ensure the economic growth and social progress, said Dominique Pouliquen, Alstom China President, Our Corporate Social Responsibilities are implemented in various aspects: in the Its all about people human resource strategy, in the campaigns to offset our environmental impact by building green factories, in our efforts to develop clean power technologies to reduce emission and transportation solutions to relieve urban traffic jam, and in Alstoms various eco-friendly endeavours.
