Alstom Power has successfully finished an emergency repair project of the generator at PVO Lämpövoima Tahkoluoto coal-fired power plant in Pori, western Finland. The project was executed in less than four weeks in March 2011.

The project consisted of repairing the hydrogen leakage of end shields of the 255 MW hydrogen cooled Elektrosila generator and the replacement of the bearing, which was discovered to be damaged. After replacing  the generator’s journal bearing the generator needed also a re-alignment.

Tahkoluoto coal-fired power plant, located in Pori in western Finland, was built in 1976. The power generation capacity is 255 MW. In autumn 2005 Alstom Power retrofitted the high pressure and intermediate pressure sections of the LMZ turbine and performed a major overhaul of the generator at the plant. The new turbine sections were manufactured in Alstom’s Polish turbine factory in Elblag. The retrofit project increased the power plant capacity by approx. 10 MW.
