German operator Üstra Hannoversche Verkehrsbetriebe AG awarded Vossloh Kiepe and Alstom with the delivery of 50 tramways. The total order has a volume of around 126 million, with Alstoms share representing approximately 21 million for the delivery of 150 bogies. The contract includes an option to deliver 96 additional tramways, representing 288 additional bogies.

The first tramways, which will feature energy savings of 15% due to efficient recovery of energy and lighter weight of the vehicles, are slated to enter service in 2013. The bogies will be manufactured at Alstoms site in Salzgitter and the vehicles in Düsseldorf and Leipzig (Germany). Alstom will equip each of the 50 vehicles with one trailer bogie and two motor bogies. The bogies manufactured by Alstom for Üstra are of a completely new and innovative design , commented Dr. Martin Lange, Managing Director of Alstom Transport in Germany and Austria.

The bogies are configured to meet the special requirements of the Vossloh trains for Hannoversche Verkehrsbetriebe. Alstom has placed special focus on low service times and high service efficiency. Therefore, the bogies have special height settings thereby improving access possibilities during service. As components like springs and slewing rings are well proven in other tramways of Alstom, they guarantee a high operational reliability. In addition, the bogies fulfill high ecological standards through a lightweight construction and have a minimised noise radiation due to wheel absorbers and protection boxes.
