Ruukki Metals Raahe has granted Alstom an Honorary Award for the excellent safety performance at the Raahe plant

Ruukki Metals Oy has granted ALSTOM Finland Oy an honorary award in recognition of exemplary commitment and work to improve safety at Ruukki Metals Raahe plants in 2010. The award was granted at the annual safety event, organised for the suppliers of Raahe plant.

According to the award criteria Alstom Power
- has carried out an extensive safety campaign in Finland since September 2008
- has worked over 500 days without any loss time accidents in Finland
- performs in terms of safety demanding maintenance services and installation work at the common workplace at Ruukki
- carries out visible and systematic safety management practices, that have generated added value to the safety integration at the site
- reacted spontaneously and rapidly to the poor safety results in the beginning of year 2009.

Alstom has with Ruukki Metals Raahe a long-term maintenance service agreement that covers the maintenance of the conveyor systems at the port of Raahe mill, coke oven, sinter and iron production and steel production. The maintenance includes 165 conveyors, with a total length of about 15 kilometres. The service includes conveyors’ preventive maintenance, condition monitoring and corrective maintenance, and also supply of the necessary spare and wear parts, planning and necessary reporting of the maintenance. The maintenance contract has been in force since June 2005. In addition to the conveyor maintenance agreement Alstom is maintaining the dedusting systems, performs the annual outage of the rolling mill and has an hourly based service agreement.

Kari Sinivuori, Alstom Country President for Finland, is delighted for the award received. ”Industrial maintenance is often performed in circumstances, which are demanding for the safety. We are committed to this challenge with the resources of a globally operating company”, Sinivuori says.
