On September 30, Alstom Smartlock interlocking solution has came into service in Lelystad station, located on the new railtrack Hanzeline, in the Netherlands.

Smartlock solution can supervise simultaneously trains running according to the ERTMS standard as well as trains equipped with national control system on this line. It will increase line speed and safety of the trains operation on this line.

50 km long, the Hanzeline is a new railway line linking Lelystad to Zwolle. It will fully come into commercial service end of 2012.

In 2007, HanzaRailTeam consortium which consists of Alstom, Volker Rail, Strukton Rail and Arcadis has been awarded a contract to supply the superstructure for a total amount of €170 million. Alstom is responsible for the design, delivery, integration and validation of the signalling system on the Hanzeline. Alstom’s share of the contract is worth €27 million. A 15-year maintenance contract for the signalling system was also awarded to Alstom.

About the Smartlock solution

Smartlock contributes to the safety of rail traffic. This solution enables infrastructure managers to oversee their operations effectively, in complete safety and with maximum return. Since 1997, 17 computerized interlocking control units have been supplied to France’s national rail network (RFF), including the largest such unit in Europe in the city of Strasbourg in 2006. In May 2009, one of Europe’s first “super-integrated” centres was delivered to Bologna, Italy. The centre manages infrastructure for eight lines, 29 train stations, over 600 signals, 300 beacons, 1,400 major routes and 1,700 shunting routes.
