A consortium led by Alstom has been awarded the contract worth 9.25 million euros (CHF 11.1 million) to build the new «Hürlistein» substation located on the Zürich-Winterthur line for Swiss Railways (SBB). The additional power supply facility allows SBB to further stabilize and strengthen the railway power system in this key section. The main component of the new substation is the 132 kV 16.7 Hz gas insulated switchgear (GIS) developed and manufactured in the Alstom GIS group competence center of Oberentfelden. The substation will become operational in 2015.
Alstom has been appointed as main contractor to supply the substation as turnkey project and will also act as technology partner. Alstom will provide engineering and project management, the GIS switchgear, the cable equipment, AC/DC auxiliary system as well as the high- and low-voltage installations. Civil works and landscaping will be outsourced to specialized third party providers.
