On 20 September 2014, Alstom and TNB Janamanung Sdn Bhd successfully achieved the synchronisation of the 1,000 MW Manjung supercritical coal-fired power plant in Perak to the Malaysian grid. The first production of electricity by this new unit is a major achievement and demonstrates Alstoms ability to complete the project in full compliance with the contract.1

Alstoms scope in the contract includes engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning of the 1,000 MW steam turbine, a generator, supercritical boiler and auxiliaries as well as ALSPA Series 6 distributed control system and advanced environmental control systems to cut emissions.

We would like to thank TNB and TNBJ for their collaboration with Alstom towards this successful synchronisation, and we will continue to deliver Alstoms commitment on proven expertise in integrated power solutions, said Jean-Marc Jaillet, Project Director for Manjung 4 at Alstom.

The 1,000 MW Manjung plant is the first coal-fired power plant in Malaysia utilising Alstoms advanced equipment and technology, and is the single largest unit in South East Asia. This power plant will produce sufficient electricity to power nearly 2 million households in Malaysia, and is aligned with the countrys energy diversification policy to create a more balanced portfolio of power generation sources that includes gas, coal and renewables power generation in the country.
