Today, Alstom inaugurated its new site dedicated to substation automation solutions for electrical grids, located in Lambermont (Verviers) in the presence of Melchior Wathelet, Secretary of State for Energy, Environment and Mobility in Belgium, and His Excellency the Ambassador of France in Belgium, Bernard Valero.

The Verviers site, currently with 32 employees, is dedicated to the design, certification and manufacturing of protection and control systems for electrical substations for the Benelux market.  These solutions are integrated and delivered in electrical panels to customers.

On this occasion, the 1000th protection and control panel was delivered to Elia, the Belgian network transmission operator. With this new installation, Alstom supports the modernisation of the operator's high-voltage network.

"This new Alstom site, dedicated to the technological development of substation automation solutions, has the know-how to provide reliable and innovative technology solutions for the entire Benelux market," said Roger Nicolaye, Managing Director of the Alstom Grid site in Belgium.

This substation automation equipment helps integrate intermittent and distributed renewable energy, interconnect different power transmission networks and operate energy transmission networks at optimal capacity. This expertise is essential in the move to a fully-digital substation, key to changing electric grids into smart grids.
