Alstom makes further commitment to Stafford with plans for second state-of-the-art facility in town

Alstom has announced plans for the creation of a second new facility in Redhill, Stafford. This state of the art facility will house Alstom’s High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) and Systems operations. Together with the Automation division, the facility will be completed by early 2017. 

Alstom will continue to maintain substations for Sheringham Shoal

Alstom has been awarded a three-year service contract by Statkraft for the substations of the 317 MW Sheringham Shoal offshore wind farm, located off the coast of North Norfolk, England. The contract, an extension of an existing one, covers emergency support as well as preventive maintenance for one onshore and two offshore substations serving the wind farm.

Women’s Craft Group gets much needed equipment

Alstom and DF Energy, consortium partners for the construction of Carrington Power Station, have contributed £450 towards the cost of purchasing much needed equipment for the Women’s Craft Group based at the Partington Library and Wellbeing Centre.

Alstom signs contract with National Grid to test a more environmentally-friendly gas solution in UK

Alstom has signed a contract with National Grid to trial, as part of an innovation project, a revolutionary environmentally-friendly insulating system for the UK’s high voltage power network. The contract will see National Grid use Alstom’s g3 (green gas for grid), a gas mixture that can replace SF6 for high voltage Air Insulated (AIS) or Gas Insulated switchgear (GIS) applications, for a 300 meter gas-insulated busbar¹ in Sellindge, in Kent. The Alstom g3 being used in the 420 kV gas-insulated busbar will be able to operate to temperatures as low as -25°C, with the system due to be commissioned by mid-2016.

Alstom invests £1.3 million in its facilities in North West

Alstom Transport is to invest around £1.3m in its facilities in the North West of England to improve logistics and distribution. The company will spend about £1m in building a new warehouse at its Longsight Traincare Centre in Manchester. This investment adds up to the £300,000 investment in Preston parts and modernisation facility bringing in Lean Lift® technology, an automatic system that picks up parts in the warehouse for a quicker delivery.
