      The Land Transport Authority of Singapore has awarded Alstom a contract worth around €240 million to provide new trains for two metro lines, the Circle Line (CCL) and North East Line (NEL), along with signaling upgrade for both lines.

      Réseau Ferré de France (RFF) awarded the signalling work for phase 2 of the East European LGV (high-speed rail line) to a consortium comprised of Alstom Transport, the lead partner, and Legrand SA. The total contract is valued at nearly €40 million and Alstom Transport’s share amounts to €30 million.

      The first Citadis tramset for the Dijon urban area arrived in the new operating and maintenance centre in Dijon on 26 January. The tramset had left the Alstom site in La Rochelle for the Dijon region six days earlier. François Rebsamen, Mayor of Dijon and President of the Greater Dijon urban area, will present the tramset to all elected representatives from Dijon communities on 27 January.

      Porterbrook, one of the three major rolling stock leasing companies in the UK, has selected Alstom to create a fleet of 36 five-car suburban trains to run on South West Trains routes.
       

    • Infrabel awards Alstom a framework contract aimed at improving safety on the Belgian rail network

      Belgian rail operator, Infrabel, and Alstom have just signed a framework contract aimed at continuing the deployment of the European Railway Traffic Management System (ERTMS) in Belgium. The framework contract covers provisions for equipping and configuring 4,000 signals with beacons, together with a 15-year maintenance agreement.

    • Alstom supplies advanced traction system Optonix to Qingdao Metro Line 3 (China)

      Alstom and its local joint venture, Shanghai Alstom Transport Electrical Equipment Co., Ltd. (SATEE), have been awarded a contract worth around €26 million by Qingdao Metro Co., Ltd to supply the state-of-the-art traction system to Qingdao Metro Line 3.

    • Alstom wins track installation contract for Toulouse tram system’s Garonne line

      The Greater Toulouse Public Transport Authority has selected the consortium composed of Alstom Transport, Egenie and Guintoli to construct sectors 1 and 2 of the Toulouse tram system’s Garonne line. Guintoli is responsible for the civil engineering, while Alstom and Egenie, a local company, will handle track installation. Alstom’s share of the €16 million contract is nearly €5 million. The 2.5-km track section will link the Arènes and Fer à Cheval stations.

      Alstom to modernize the “Sillon Alpin Sud” line

      Réseau Ferré de France (RFF) has awarded a contract valued at nearly €80 million to a consortium made up of Alstom Transport, Colas Rail, Setec Ferroviaire, Spie Batignolles TPCI and Nouvetra for the purpose of modernizing the “Sillon Alpin Sud” (Alpine Arc South) line. Alstom’s share amounts to €20 million. Preliminary studies for the project began in November 2011. Work on the project will begin in January 2013 and is expected to last nine months.

    • Nottingham City tram extension contract awarded to Tramlink consortium

      Nottingham consortium to construct and operate two new tram lines, expanding the existing network by 17.5 km. The consortium includes Alstom, VINCI Investments (a UK subsidiary of VINCI PLC), Keolis and Wellglade (owners of local bus operator Trent Barton) and Meridiam and OFI Infravia as financial investors. As part of the contract, Tramlink Nottingham will also take over responsibility for the operation of the existing Nottingham Express Transit (NET) Line One which has been open since 2004, for the 23-year concession granted to the consortium.

      Euroduplex inaugurates the Rhine-Rhône LGV high-speed rail line

      Euroduplex – the third generation of TGV Duplex – went into service on 11 December 2011 when the SNCF inaugurated the Rhine-Rhone LGV high-speed rail line. Euroduplex is the only double-decker, interoperable high-speed train capable of running on European networks while transporting up to 1,020 passengers (multiple units) at speeds of 320 km/h in total safety.

      On Tuesday 13 December, Italy’s first private rail operator, Nuovo Trasporto Viaggiatori (NTV), unveiled its new .italo AGV very high-speed train. The first trains are slated to start regularly scheduled service on the Turin-Salerno and Rome-Venice lines in early 2012.

      On 3 November, the first automated underground train went into service on Line 1 of the Paris metro. Fully automated i.e. driverless metro trainsets will be rolled out gradually: by the end of 2011, there will be 16 such trainsets in operation, and the line will become fully automated during 2012.
