Designed by experts

The priorities of Alstom’s team of experts in charge of designing Dispen dampers in Le Creusot, France, are improved damping force, leading to safe and more comfortable rides, and reduced wear on the mechanical parts connected to the dampers. Overall, Alstom offers an extended lifetime based on a solid return of experience and strong design reliability. This provides outstanding results in terms of maintenance intervals (up to 2.5 million kilometres before first maintenance for linear dampers and up to 4 million kilometres for friction dampers and bi-mode dampers). Durability is one of the main criteria driving the design development of Alstom’s Dispen dampers.

Optimised total cost of ownership

Dispen dampers reduce wheel-rail contact friction, which in turn lowers the amount and frequency of maintenance operations related to wheel, axle and track wear. This optimisation also contributes to energy savings when travelling around bends. Operators can benefit from Alstom's best-in-class services for their dampers or order replacement part kits to maintain them at their chosen time, thereby guaranteeing optimum flexibility.

World leading innovation

Invisible to the passenger, the bi-mode Dispen damper won an Innovation Award at the SIFER trade exhibition in Lille in 2015. This innovative product reduces the lateral acceleration of trains in curves, improving the comfort ride index by up to 20% while minimising track and wheel wear. This bi-mode damper is a 100% mechanical plug & play product which offers high reliability. As a strongly passenger comfort-oriented organisation, Alstom is also working on controlled dampers for higher dynamic stability and improved comfort.
