Alstom, RTE and their partners announced the launch of the Smart Substations Project (Poste Eléctriques Intelligents), during the Smart Grids Paris exhibition, held 4th-6th June in Paris, France. The announcement was made in the presence of Delphine Batho, the French Minister for Ecology, Sustainable Development & Energy. The Smart Substations Project is a world premiere, a precursor to the smart grids of the future and an important step on the road to the energy transition.

Alstom Grid and Intel today signed a global agreement to combine expertise and work together on solutions and technologies for smart grids and smart cities. The focus will be on embedded intelligence and IT systems security to facilitate a fast roll-out of new architectures for future grids. The deal is the fruit of three years’ close collaboration on projects.

Alstom Grid and Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO), one of the largest electric utilities in the world, have announced the creation of KEPCO Alstom Power Electronics Systems (KAPES). The joint venture will focus on delivering high voltage direct current (HVDC) projects in Korea. This long term strategic relationship aims at increasing Korean transmission grid capabilities based on Alstom technology. The joint venture is implemented with a shareholding of 49% for Alstom and 51% for KEPCO.

The consortium Alstom Grid and Keppel Verolme has successfully installed an offshore substation for Global Tech I, an offshore wind farm located in the German North Sea. Installed on site by Keppel Verolme, the floating, self-erecting substation, based on the Mobile Offshore Application Barge (MOAB), a design of Overdick, will be applied for an offshore wind farm substation in Germany.

Between 1 April 2012 and 31 March 2013, Alstom booked €23.8 billion of orders, up 10% compared to last year. As announced, the group achieved a strong level of orders in the fourth quarter at €6.6 billion, leading to a book-to-bill above 1 for the 10th consecutive quarter.

Alstom Grid and Soyuz Holding have signed a joint venture agreement to manufacture and commercialise high voltage switchgear as part of ongoing efforts to modernise the Russian electrical grid. The joint venture will be owned 51% by Alstom Grid and 49% by Soyuz Holding and will be part of Alstom’s worldwide industrial organisation, benefiting from its industrial know-how and technological expertise.

Two transformers manufactured by Alstom’s Wuhan factory (China) in the frame of Brazil’s Rio Madeira transmission line contract have arrived at the Porto Velho substation in north-west Brazil. The total journey of the transformers from Wuhan to Porto Velho took around 70 days with stops in Shanghai (China), Manaus (Brazil) and Porto Velho.
4th – 6th June, Alstom Grid took part in Smart Grid Paris as strategic sponsor. Delphine Batho, French Minister for Ecology, Sustainable Development and Energy attended the event to present the “Smart Awards” and visited the Alstom booth.

Alstom Grid has been awarded a three-year electrical substation services contract, worth more than €3 million, with TransnetBW in Germany, covering planned and unplanned maintenance and emergency repair on all of their high voltage assets. The scope of the contract includes power transformers, circuit breakers, disconnectors, gas-insulated switchgear, instrument transformers, AC/DC auxiliary supply and thermographic measurement.
