Alstom and Drax announced today that industrial gases provider BOC will join them as a co-developer on the 426 MW oxy-fired carbon capture and storage (CCS) project currently under development at the Drax site in North Yorkshire.

Alstom and the leading Scottish marine developer SSE Renewables have signed a new joint venture agreement to develop the Costa Head Wave Project, an up to 200 Megawatts (MW) wave energy site located north of mainland Orkney, in The Crown Estate’s Pentland Firth and Orkney Waters Strategic Area.

Patrick Kron, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Alstom, and the Iraqi Vice Minister of Electricity, His Excellency Salam Kazzaz, signed on 11 December, in the presence of His Excellency Karim Aftan El Jumaily, Minister of Electricity, a contract worth approximately €400 million to build the 728 MW Al Mansuriya gas-fired power plant in the Diyala Governorate, northeast of Baghdad.

The Alstom Chair in Clean Energy Systems Technology (ACCEST) was inaugurated today at the University of the Witwatersrand, in Johannesburg, South Africa through a partnership, which will see Alstom investing over ZAR 17 million in various projects at the University between 2009 and 2016.

Gassnova and Statoil have chosen Alstom as one of the suppliers of the CO2 capture technology to participate in a technology qualification program for full scale CO2 capture plant at Mongstad (CCM).
Alstom opens on 30 November in Brazil its first wind turbine plant in the South American continent. The plant, located in the industrial complex of Camaçari, State of Bahia, will have an output capacity of 300 MW per year.
