A key milestone
The award in April 2012 of 3 wind offshore farms to the consortium led by EDF EN for which Alstom is the exclusive turbine supplier (Saint-Nazaire, Courseulles-sur-Mer and Fécamp for a total of around 240 wind turbines) has been a key milestone.
Alstom has since confirmed four facilities (nacelles, generators, blades and towers) will be set up in France and the first stone of the Saint-Nazaire factory for nacelles was laid in early 2013.
In preparation for its certification, the first Haliade™ 150-6MW is undergoing a series of year-long tests on land at the Carnet site, before a second turbine is placed in the sea off the Belgian coast end 2013.

Alstom is also targeting other large European offshore wind markets (Germany, UK) and expects to position itself as a leader of this growing part of the renewable energy mix, which requires large efficient and reliable turbines.
The Haliade™ 150-6MW turbine based on cutting edge technologies such as the largest rotor ever designed and a direct drive permanent magnet generator, should help Alstom to capture a significant share of the promising offshore market.
