A total of 10 Coradia Stream trains were ordered by VR in 1996. Following this, a confirmation of an option for 20 similar electrical multiple units (EMUs) was made in 2002.

The trains are being used for commuter traffic in Helsinki and on the regional link to Tampere. The 2-car trains have a capacity for 284 passengers and operate at a maximum speed of 160 km/h.

Following an initial order of 10 vehicles in the early 1990’s, VR confirmed and option for the supply of 8 additional tilting trains in 2002. This order was part of a plan undertaken by VR to improve rail service on the main Finnish railway lines, and ended up ordering a total number of 18 Pendolinos. The trains have been in service in Finland on regional lines such as Helsinki-Turku; Helsinki-Jyvaskyla and Helsinki-Oulu main lines. Each train comprises 6 cars and is able to carry up to 287 passengers at a maximum speed of 220 km/h.

In 2006, we were awarded a contract to deliver 4 new high-speed tilting trains featuring 342 seats to be operated on the Helsinki – St Petersburg line, cutting the travel time on the 450km journey by more than 2 hours from 5.5 to just over 3 hours, achieving a top speed of 220 kph.

Helsinki-St-Petersburg Allegro is an electric trainset with a distributed power which can operate on both 25 kV AC 50 Hz and 3 kV DC.
