Alstom’s history of groundbreaking mobility solutions in Sweden goes back more than 140 years. We are the largest railway supplier in the market, having delivered over 1000 trains as well as the majority of all signalling and traffic management systems.

Our current deliveries include new high-speed trains, regional trains, trams and metro cars, the roll-out of ERTMS along with several large maintenance contracts and modernisation projects to upgrade existing fleets. 

A great number of our 2000 employees in Sweden are located at Alstom’s global R&D and industrialisation centres in Stockholm and Västerås. Here we develop and deliver electric traction, braking, train control and signalling solutions to customers worldwide. 

With Alstom’s third Innovation Station placed in Sweden, we are perfectly positioned to collaborate within the vibrant Swedish innovation ecosystem to usher in the future of sustainable mobility.

    C20 Stockholm Metro

    271 metro cars for SL, running in the Stockholm metro since 1997. In 2024 Alstom completed the mid-life-upgrade of all trains including furnishing and passenger information system.

    In 2010, ERTMS (level 2) was piloted for the first time on Ådalsbanan and Botniabanan.

  • Coradia Nordic X60/X60B for SL

    Coradia Nordic X60/X60B for SL

    The trains were deployed in August 2005. Maximum speed in traffic: 160 km/h. The contract was signed in 2002. Alstom has sold 129 regional trains in total to Greater Stockholm Commuter Transport (SLL).

    Arlanda Express

    Seven four-carriage express trains were deployed in 1999. Maximum speed in traffic: 200 km/h. This was Alstom's first contract in Sweden, signed in 1995, through a newly formed company together with John Mowlem, NCC and SIAB.

    Firm order of 25 high-speed trains with option of 15 more. The new trains will effectively be Sweden’s fastest ever, capable of operating at maximum speeds of 250km/h.

    Multiple ongoing maintenance contracts as well as modernisation projects across Sweden with specialised workshops on heavy maintenance and repair in Motala and Västerås.
