Wide range of configurations

Alstom’s Metropolis trains serve the different needs of customers worldwide. From small gauge to large gauge profiles, 2-to-9-car configurations, automated or manual operation, different voltage systems, steel or tyre wheels and individual interior designs, the trains can be adapted to different infrastructure and capacity needs as well as changing populations and operator expectations.

    In 2022, Alstom was awarded the contract to provide 37 Metropolis metro trains and its Urbalis CBTC signalling solution, along with 20 years of maintenance for the future line 7 to Metro de Santiago. This metro line will improve the quality of mobility by providing reliable, safe and environmentally-friendly mobility.

  • Metropolis metro, Grand Paris SGP Line 15,16,17, France

    Lines 15, 16 and 17 will be equipped with state-of-the-art driverless automatic metros developed from solutions from Alstom's Metropolis range. These metros will guarantee the highest levels of availability, reliability and safety expected by passengers. With cars 2.8m wide, each metro will be able to carry approximately 500 passengers in its 3-car version and around 1,000 passengers in its 6-car version.

  • Metro REM, Montreal, Canada

    In 2018, the Alstom-led consortium with SNC-Lavalin, signed a contract with CDPQ Infra to deliver a complete automatic and driverless light metro system, including rolling stock and signalling, as well as operation and maintenance services, for the Réseau Express métropolitain (REM) project in Montreal, Canada.

  • Metro Agra Kanpur, India

    In 2020, Alstom was awarded a contract for the delivery of 201 metro cars and an advanced signalling system by the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) for operation on the network of Agra-Kanpur. The first trainset was presented to the customer in September 2021.

  • Movia C30 metro, Stockholm, Sweden

    In 2013, Alstom has received an order for 96 4-car Movia trains from Stockholm Public Transport (SL). The Movia C30 trains have a unique design and are made to operate reliably under winter conditions in Sweden’s capital, Stockholm. They also provide a very low noise level in operation and offer sumptuous passenger comfort.

  • Metropolis metro, Cairo line 1, Egypt

    In 2021 – Alstom and the National Authority for Tunnels (NAT) announced an agreement for 55 Metropolis trains (9 cars per train) and an 8-year maintenance contract. As a state-of-the-art metro, Metropolis brings an unprecedented level of comfort to Cairo residents and tourists. Its interior layout is tailored to the specific requirements of the line and designed to maximise train capacity while enhancing comfort, accessibility and passenger flow.

  • Metropolis metro, São Paulo Line 8 & 9, Brazil

    In 2021 – Alstom was chosen by ViaMobilidade Linhas 8 e 9 concessionaire1 to deliver 36 eight-car trains which will provide service on the 8-Diamante and 9-Esmerala lines in São Paulo, Brazil. The new trains are part of the package of improvements and obligations taken on by the concessionaire that recently acquired responsibility for operating and maintaining both metropolitan train lines for 30 years.

  • Metropolis metro Mumbai Line 3, India

    In 2019, Alstom signed a contract with MMRC for the delivery of new metro trains for Line 3 of Mumbai’s metro network. The order includes manufacturing of 31 light-weight, modern metro trains of eight cars each. Along with rolling stock, Alstom will also carry out the power supply contract and equip Line 3 with latest generation Urbalis 400 CBTC signalling technology.

  • Metropolis metro, Sydney, Australia

    In 2014, Alstom won a contract to deliver 22 six-car trainsets, as well as the CBTC signalling system, for North West Rail Link, Australia’s largest public transport project and first fully-automated metro network. Alstom’s engineering hub in Bengaluru adapted the Metropolis and Urbalis solutions to the specific needs of Sydney Metro to ensure fast, safe and reliable services to the residents of Sydney. The last train was handed over to the customer in December 2018.

  • Metropolis turnkey metro, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia

    In 2013, Alstom and its consortium FAST were awarded a turnkey contract for three metro lines for the city of Riyadh. Alstom’s turnkey solutions support ADA (Saudi Arabia's Arriyadh Development Authority) in the development of a premium metro system to address Riyadh’s population growth, which is expected to jump by 40% in concurrence with a 60% rise in travel demand by 2030.
