Alstom has been operating in the Czech Republic for more than twenty years and is one of the key players in the local railway market. We build on the rich tradition of the Czech railway industry while combining it with technologies that are shaping the future of transportation.

In the Czech Republic, we employ more than 1,400 people and provide comprehensive solutions for rolling stock and railway infrastructure. Alstom is a leader in traffic management and a supplier of state-of-the-art signalling technologies fully compliant with the European ETCS Level 2 standard. Local operators run our Traxx locomotives, and in 2022 we were the first company to introduce the Coradia iLint hydrogen-powered train to the Czech public.

A strong local presence is represented by our manufacturing facility in Česká Lípa, operated by Alstom since 2021. With a history dating back to 1918, the site is one of the largest rolling stock manufacturing sites in Central and Eastern Europe. The facility specializes in the production of components for suburban and regional trains, double-deck coaches, and trams.

The site includes a modern paint shop, a certified testing laboratory, and a training center for welders. Manufacturing capabilities cover carbon and stainless-steel welding, final surface treatment, and the installation of basic vehicle interiors. The site contributes to projects for numerous European cities and also plays an important role in the development of zero-emission technologies, including the production of components for hydrogen-powered trains.

Alstom also has its own team of specialists at the Velim Test Centre, one of the most advanced railway testing facilities in Europe. The center enables train testing at speeds of up to 200 km/h and supports all types of power supply systems. It provides a comprehensive process for railway vehicle testing and certification.

    Pendolino high-speed trains in operation in the Czech Republic

  • High-Speed Trains

    We introduced the first high-speed train in the Czech Republic, the Pendolino, featuring active tilt technology that enables higher speeds even on curved tracks. It remains the only train to have exceeded 200 km/h on Czech railways in regular operation.

  • Traxx Locomotives

    We have delivered more than 130 Traxx freight and passenger locomotives (MS2e and MS3) to the Czech market. The Traxx MS3 locomotives are the only four-axle multi-system locomotives on the market offering an optional Last Mile function for operation on non-electrified sections of track.

  • Railway Signalling Systems

    We were the first company in the Czech Republic to certify the onboard component of the European Train Control System (ETCS). Today, we hold approximately 70% market share, with more than 700 ETCS onboard units delivered.

  • Services

    We provide warranty support and full maintenance services for all delivered Traxx 3 MS locomotives directly at customer sites. We also offer the MyTraxxFleet monitoring service for Traxx MS2e locomotives.

  • Logistics Center

    Our new center in Česká Lípa ensures secure storage of electronic equipment and fast delivery of spare parts and maintenance services for more than 800 vehicles equipped with Atlas and EBICAB ETCS systems. The facility makes a significant contribution to the transition toward European railway standards.

  • Welding

    More than a century of industrial expertise has made the Česká Lípa facility one of Alstom’s most advanced welding centers. The site specializes in welding carbon and stainless steel for train and tram car bodies. We use a range of cutting-edge technologies, including laser and spot welding, which Alstom was the first to introduce in the Czech Republic.

  • The Largest and Most Advanced Rolling Stock Paint Shop in Central Europe

    Covering an area of 12,000 m², the paint shop provides complete painting services for car bodies, subassemblies, and smaller components destined for assembly lines. It specializes in the application of both water-based and solvent-based coating systems and represents one of the facility’s key manufacturing capabilities.

  • Certified Testing Laboratory

    Established in 2011, the laboratory specializes in testing the strength and quality of welded joints. Accredited by the Czech Accreditation Institute, it offers six testing methods. The laboratory supports both internal welding quality assurance processes and external customers.

  • Welding School

    Weld quality is essential to everything we do. To ensure the highest level of expertise among our welders, we established a unique welding school that is unparalleled in the Czech Republic. The school trains both newcomers and experienced professionals, helping them obtain the industry's most demanding certifications.

  • Installation of Basic Interior Equipment

    Trams represent a significant part of the facility’s production. In addition to welding and painting, we provide the installation of basic interior equipment such as flooring and windows, and, for selected projects, electronic systems as well. The completed trams are then put into service in cities across Europe.
