The 2.5 km surface line will run south of Giza Suburban
station to El Mounib, adding two new stations. The overall
contract is valued at approximately 80 million euros.

The turnkey contract is composed of civil works,
electromechanical equipment and power supply and low voltage
equipment. The work accorded to foreign firms represents
approximately 50 million euros, of which ALSTOM's share is 32
million euros.

ALSTOM's contribution includes power supply,
signaling and automatic train operation, and a centralized
control system, as well as overall project management of the
turnkey contract. Other consortium members are the VINCI, SPIE
and THALES Groups. INTERINFRA was also responsible for the
construction of Lines 2 and 3 of the Athens Metro system, in
association with SIEMENS.

The extension will be built along Egyptian National Railways
(ENR) tracks which lead towards the south of Egypt. The new
terminal at El Munib, one of the two new stations, will greatly
facilitate transfers from a major bus station located near the
Ring Road. The construction is expected to take 30 months.

'We are very pleased to have been chosen, once again, to
supply the Cairo metro network. This new success is of particular
importance as it will allow us to maintain an active presence in
Egypt before the upcoming international tender for Line 3'.

Charles Carlier, Senior Vice President of the Systems Business in
the Transport Sector of ALSTOM

Longstanding suppliers for the Cairo Metro
INTERINFRA has been accompanying Cairo as it builds and
extends its mass transit for over a decade. Their history began
with INTERINFRA's supply of Line 1, inaugurated in 1987. This
success was followed by the contract for Phase 1 of Line 2,
awarded to INTERINFRA in 1992. Amendments came in rapid
succession for Phases 2A and 2B, which allowed Line 2 to be
gradually extended over 18.5 km. The inauguration of the last
section reaching Giza Suburban station took place in October
2000.

ALSTOM Transport, with sales of 4.7 billion euros and a
near 17% market share, is a leading supplier of rolling stock,
signaling, services and railway systems to the rail industry
world-wide.
