The Hessische Landesbahn (HLB) and the Westerwaldbahn (WEBA)
have jointly awarded ALSTOM a contract worth about 60 million
euros for 28 diesel motor units of the type CORADIA LINT. The
order includes ten single-unit and 18 two-unit vehicles that
allow multiple traction and flexible use. The trainsets will be
built by ALSTOM LHB, in Salzgitter, Germany, and delivered
between April and November 2004. The vehicles will then start
regular passenger service on the four lines of the Westerwaldnetz
around Limburg.

Said Peter Berking, Managing Director of the HLB, at the
signing of the contract on December 12: '
The CORADIA LINT family meets all service requirements of the
Westerwaldnetz and is the most economic and also the most
attractive offer.
'

Dr. Dieter Klumpp, Managing Director of ALSTOM LHB, added that
the variable operating concept and interior fittings of the
service-proven CORADIA LINT family optimally meet the
requirements of the different line profiles of the network.

The CORADIA LINT reaches speeds of up to 120 kmh. With a
length of 27 meters, the single-unit trainsets offer 72 seats.
The two-unit trainsets are 41 meters long and offer 129
seats.

Passengers benefit from air conditioning, comfortable seats
with armrests and a toilet for people with impaired mobility. The
low-floor entrance area and an additional automatic step for
platform heights of 380 millimeters allow easy access. The
spacious multipurpose storage areas offer room for bicycles and
luggage, especially important for the popular tourist lines.

Including this order, ALSTOM has sold more than 200 CORADIA
LINT vehicles to nine customers in Germany, the Netherlands and
Denmark, with 100 already in successful passenger-service
operation. The word CORADIA is derived from ancient Greek,
meaning 'through the region,' and LINT stands for 'light
innovative mass transit vehicle.'

With more than 35 product lines and a presence in over 60
countries, ALSTOM's Transport Sector offers cutting-edge
products and services to four distinct types of customers:
urban transit authorities and operators; intercity passenger
rail operators and rolling stock owners; rail freight
operators; and intercity railway infrastructure owners.
ALSTOM's Transport Sector, with 4.4 billion euros in sales in
2001, is among the world's leading suppliers to the railway
industry.
