ALSTOM has been awarded a contract for the turnkey construction of a 465MW gas-fired combined cycle power plant in Argentina. The deal brings the total of ALSTOM GT13E2 machines sold worldwide to 100.

The contract, with Argentinian aluminium company Aluar, covers the engineering, supply, erection and commissioning of the plant, which will supply electricity to Aluars smelters at its site in Puerto Madryn, Province of Chubut.

ALSTOM will also supply two gas treatment systems within the sites pot room and anode bake furnace. The power plant is due to come into commercial operation in November 2007.

The plant technology is based on two GT13E2 heavy duty gas turbines in a multishaft arrangement with two heat recovery steam generators, steam turbine, three electrical generators, and electrical balance of plant.

Philippe Joubert, President of ALSTOMs Power Turbo-Systems/Power Environment Sector, said: This particular technology is proving itself to be the flexible, powerful solution required for power production for aluminium smelting. Alstoms plant integrator capability means that we are the natural choice for this kind of turnkey project.
