ALSTOM has been awarded a framework contract by Hera SpA to supply flue gas treatment systems to its Waste Incineration Plants Expansion Project. The four plants - Ferrara, Forlì, Rimini and Ravenna - are located in the Emilia-Romagna Region of Italy, and are owned and operated by Hera. The contract is valued at 30 million euro and can be referred to as the first Long Term Partnership Agreement (LTPA) in this industry.

ALSTOMs flue gas cleaning systems will treat flue gas from the new municipal solid waste-fired grate boiler lines. ALSTOMs scope covers the turnkey supply of the air pollution control systems, including reagents and by-product storage and handling.

The flue gas treatment systems are of the new dual stage dry, lime and bicarbonate injection-based systems, featuring low temperature tail-end selective catalytic reduction of nitrogen oxide (NOx) that will reduce emissions to extremely low levels, below the current regulations. Completion of the last plant is scheduled for in 2008.

Hera is Italy's second-largest multiple-service group, and the result of the first significant consolidation of public utility services firms in Emilia-Romagna. It operates in the energy, water and environmental sectors with 5,000 employees, and manages the entire waste cycle for approximately 2.2 million people in the provinces of Bologna, Ravenna, Rimini, Forlì-Cesena and Ferrara.

ALSTOM has supplied gas-cleaning systems to plants thermally treating waste for more than 30 years, with over 360 installations in Europe, USA and Asia.
