Worth a total of 374.5 million euros, the order comprises
180 double locomotives. The Belfort site has been entrusted
with the manufacture of 12 complete locomotives and the supply
of six complete kits, which will be completed in China. Datong,
will manufacture the remaining 168 vehicles.

The DJ4 is a 9.6-MW double-electric locomotive, the most
powerful Alstom Transport has ever built. It will be used to
pull 20,000-tonne trains loaded with coal between the Datong
mine and the port of Qinhuang Dao, 650 kilometres away.

This first delivery comes just 19 months after the contract
came into force and fully one-and-a-half months ahead of the
planned delivery date laid down in the contract. The Le Creusot
(bogies), Ornans (traction motors), Tarbes (traction systems
and system cubicles) and Charleroi (auxiliary blocks) sites are
serving as Belfort’s partners for the manufacture of the
12 double locomotives and the delivery of kits to Datong.

Alstom Transport is currently finalizing the technical details
of a contract for 500 CoCo locomotives, the first of which are
planned for delivery in 2009.
