Since 2000, Shanghai metro line 2 has been operating over a
distance of 20 km. Due to the 10 km extension of the line towards
the west from Zhongshan road to Hongqiao airport, additional
trains are required to meet the need for increased transport
capacities.

ALSTOM will provide traction systems and auxiliary power
supply kits, train communication systems, train control systems
and associated services. Each METROPOLIS train will be equipped
with the latest information control system. The first train is
expected to be completed at the end of 2007. The delivery of the
12 trainsets is scheduled for 2008.

Mr. Wang Dadong, Managing Director of Alstom Transport China,
said
ALSTOM has received orders to date for more than 500
METROPOLIS metro cars for the city of Shanghai. This new contract
reconfirms Shanghai metros trust in ALSTOMs
products and services.

ALSTOM has been a supplier to Shanghai Shentong Holdings Group
since 1999 and has already delivered metro cars for Shanghai Mass
Transit lines 1, 3 and 5 as well as the Nanjing metro network,
gaining wide-spread recognition in the mass transit sector in
China. Thanks to its excellent performance in the signalling
project for Shanghai Mass Transit line 4 in 2005, Alstom was
awarded a prize by the municipality of Shanghai earlier this
month.

Since the development of the METROPOLIS range in 1997, ALSTOM
has won contracts in cities around the world. Today, about 1700
METROPOLIS trains are in service in cities such as Barcelona,
Warsaw, Singapore, Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo, Buenos Aires and
Santiago de Chile. The METROPOLIS range has a modular
architecture : the customer can, for instance, choose between
various train configurations, train widths and train lengths.
They can also define the front-end design, car interiors as well
as seating arrangements.

* The consortium includes the following companies : ALSTOM
Transport SA, CSR Nanjing Puzhen Rolling Stock Works, and two
ALSTOM Transport JVs in Shanghai, SATCO and SATEE.
