Alstom Transport and CFR Electrificare, the division of the
Romanian railways responsible for infrastructure, signed a
20.6 million contract on 23 December in Bucharest
(Romania) for the supply and installation of 12 electric
substations.

This two-year renovation contract covers the substations, a
video surveillance network and a local equipment control
system, and will help to modernize the Romanian rail network
and improve reliability. Remote management and the monitoring
of these installations will also enable CFR to improve its
operational performance.

The contract signed by Alstom relates to a 400-kilometre
section of trans-European rail corridor IV and is part of
CFRs policy to meet the demands imposed at European
level.

In signing this first contract with CFR, Alstom
Transport is showing its desire to help develop rail transport
in Romania. We have in fact been doing this since 2004, with
540 employees carrying out maintenance on the Bucharest
Metro, commented Gabriel Stanciu, Managing Director of
Alstom Transport in Romania.
