The Chilean operator Metro de Santiago has awarded Alstom
Transport a contract to supply automatic train control system
for Santiago metro’s line 5 extension. This contract,
worth 9.5 million euros, includes engineering, equipment,
installation, tests and commissioning. The 14 kilometres long
line extension will enter in commercial service on December
2009.

Alstom will equip the metros with Sacem , an automate
technology that controls the trains’ movements,
guaranteeing passengers’ safety and optimizing traffic
flow. This new system will permit Metro de Santiago reduce
intervals between trains up to a minimum of 100 seconds per
unit, allowing a considerable increase in passenger/hour
capacity.

Alstom already successfully installed Sacem on lines 1,2 and 5
of Santiago metro and in other important networks such as
Paris, Mexico, Hong-Kong and Istanbul.
