The Barcelona metro is expanding

Five Metropolis trainsets constructed by Alstom are
currently operating on this 3.9-km line serving six stations.
Line 9, slated for final completion in 2014, will be 47.5
kilometres long when finished, thus becoming Spain’s
first fully automated metro line and the longest underground
line in Europe, transporting 130 million passengers
annually.

The trainsets were manufactured by the Alstom Santa Perpetua
plant, as were the 34 already in service on lines 2 and 4. A
total of 50 trainsets were ordered in 2004.
