A key milestone for the site and the development of regional rail vehicles.
On 2nd November 2011, the 500th Coradia Lint is leaving the Alstom factory in Salzgitter. This is a key milestone for the site and the development of regional rail vehicles. This vehicle is part of an order for 28 Coradia Lint rail vehicles for Landesnahverkehrsgesellschaft Niedersachsen mbH (LNVG), who ordered their first Coradia Lint from Alstom in Salzgitter as early as 1997. Once the new timetable comes into effect at the end of 2011, the 500th Lint will begin carrying passengers on the Heidekreuz network around Soltau, to Hannover, Buchholz in der Nordheide, Uelzen and Bremen.
"The first Coradia Lint left the Salzgitter factory in November 2000, and now, exactly 11 years later, we are sending the 500th vehicle in the class on its way. This development is excellent proof of the trust held in the quality of our vehicles and in us as a reliable partner", said Achim Alles, Managing Director of Alstom in Salzgitter. "LNVG was one of the first customers for our Coradia Lint and we are delighted that both the first and the 500th Lints will now be in use in Lower Saxony."
"We would like to warmly congratulate Alstom on the 500th Coradia Lint. We have been using the Coradia Lint diesel vehicles for over 11 years and remain extremely satisfied with them", said Hans-Joachim Menn, Managing Director of LNVG.
Since the first vehicles were delivered in 2000, the Coradia Lint has established itself as one of the most successful vehicles in its class. So far, Alstom has sold a total of 621 Coradia Lint trains in Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark and Canada to private and state-run transport companies and providers. The LNVG currently has 92 of these Coradia Lint regional rail vehicles in its fleet.
The 500th Coradia Lint reaches speeds of up to 120 kilometres per hour and has 129 seats. Great value was placed on the vehicle's environmentally-friendly credentials when it was ordered. Soot particle filters contribute to sustainable environmental protection in regional transport. The diesel engines meet the current exhaust emission standards. The new emissions level EU Stage IIIB, which comes into force on 1st January 2012, demands significant improvement in the exhaust emissions quality of diesel engines and further reduces the acceptable thresholds for particle and nitric oxide emissions. In order to meet these new requirements, Alstom retreats exhaust gases using the principle of selective catalytic reduction (SCR), which removes the nitric oxide from the exhaust gases. This reduces the formation of particles, so that the very strict thresholds of EU Stage IIIB are adhered to even without the use of an additional particle filter.
Great emphasis was also put on the comfortable and accessible design. The Coradia Lint vehicles are equipped according to the latest accessibility regulations (TSI PRM), making travel considerably easier for people with limited mobility. Journeys are made easier with a wheelchair ramp, two wheelchair spaces, additional operator controls such as separate request buttons, emergency press-to-talk buttons, acoustic indication of door status, internal design with plenty of contrast, more tactile operator controls, wider seats for persons with limited mobility and special guide bars on the vehicle's external doors for visually impaired passengers. Automatic gap bridging, which connects to the vehicle floor without steps, allows all passengers to board the train easily and safely. The vehicles also have a disabled-friendly toilet. CCTV equipment ensures safety. In addition, emergency press-to-talk facilities are provided not only around the doors, but also in the two marked wheelchair spaces.
