Pembroke power station project awarded Sword of Honour for Safety Success

Alstom
and RWE representatives from the Pembroke Power station construction
project have been awarded the prestigious British Safety Council Sword
of Honour. 

The award, which
recognises outstanding health and safety achievements, was presented to
the project team by Alex Botha, Chief Executive of the British Safety
Council, at a luncheon held at Goldsmiths' Hall in the City of London on
25 November.

The Sword of Honour represents a pinnacle of achievement in the world of health and safety management and is awarded to companies who demonstrate only the highest standards in this area.

In order to qualify, the Alstom-led project team, responsible for constructing RWEs new Pembroke Power Station in South Wales, had to prove the project eligible by receiving five stars in the BSC Occupational Health and Safety Audit. This milestone was achieved in August 2011, with a score of 99%. The project team then had to prove to a panel of independent experts that they were best of the best in health and safety management throughout the business from the boardroom to the shopfloor.

Alstoms Senior Vice President of the Gas Business, Mark Coxon, said, "We are delighted to have received the Sword of Honour which recognises the continuous hard efforts of our project team and all project stakeholders supporting the Pembroke Power Station project."

Ken Larsen, Alstom Project Director for the Pembroke Power Station added, This award exemplifies the primary focus on environment, health and safety standards achieved by Alstom in delivering one of the largest and most efficient power stations in the United Kingdom to RWE.
