Alstom and its local joint venture, Shanghai Alstom Transport Electrical Equipment Co., Ltd. (SATEE), have been awarded a contract worth around 26 million by Qingdao Metro Co., Ltd to supply the state-of-the-art traction system to Qingdao Metro Line 3.
According to the contract, Alstom and SATEE will provide traction systems equipped with the latest technology named Optonix for the 144 metro cars of Qingdao Line 3. Already implemented on Beijing line 15, this system is now fully operational since the end of 2010.
Qingdao Line 3, connecting Qingdao Railway Station and Qingdao Railway North Station, is 25km long with 22 stations and will be operating at 80 km/h with 2-minute headway. Commercial service is scheduled for December 2014.
