Signalling Solutions Limited (SSL), the Alstom/Balfour Beatty Joint Venture company, has announced the award of a contract from VolkerFitzpatrick.

Valued at around £9 million it will provide the signalling component within a project to upgrade Gatwick Station. This is part of VolkerFitzpatrick's contract with Network Rail for a major enhancement of Gatwick Station, which includes the implementation of a new platform, as well as layout changes designed to increase the flexibility of operation.

SSL will deliver the design, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of the signalling changes. The main commissioning dates are scheduled in May and December 2013.

The project will see SSL supply and install a Smartlock 400 interlocking, SSLs latest computer based interlocking (CBI) product, designed and manufactured by parent company Alstom. This will add to growing list of sites where the interlocking has been installed, the most recent being the four commissioned last year which together control the Great West Main Line from Paddington to Heathrow.
