Brest Métropole Océanes Citadis tramway was inaugurated on 23 and 24 June - an event that was eagerly awaited by the whole urban area. The city's first tramway line is more than 14 km long, includes 28 stations, and is one of the key features of Brest's new transport network.
In November 2009, Alstom won the joint bid issued by the urban communities of Brest and Dijon for the supply of 53 Citadis tramway trainsets, 20 of which were earmarked for Brest Métropole Océane.
The first of the trainsets was unveiled to the people of Brest on 7 September 2011, with commercial service scheduled to commence in June 2012.
Brests Citadis tramway started running on 23 June, and a number of artistic and cultural events were organized to celebrate its arrival. These included street art, as well as the inauguration of works and shows that focused the people of Brest on their new tramway that welcomed nearly 200,000 passengers over the two days of inauguration.
Intended to give new impetus to the urban area's economic and social dynamism, its curved, fluid and elegant exterior design integrates harmoniously into its environment, while its lime green colour adds a dose of vitality - representing the revitalising effect that the tramway is having on the city.
