Alstom signed a contract1  to supply additional equipment to Santo Antonio hydro plant, in Brazil, complementing the current project. Alstom will supply two more Bulb turbines, four generators, two speed governors, two excitation systems and six bus bars. IMMA, a joint venture of Alstom and Bardella, will also be responsible for 100% of the hydromechanical and lifting equipment. Alstoms scope in the project is worth around 80 million.

Located in Madeira River, in the North of Brazil, Santo Antonio is considered one of the largest hydro plants in the country and will generate enough energy for 44 million people. The equipment will improve the power production of the plant by 417 MW, achieving 3,568 MW for the entire project. The new equipment will be produced at the Taubaté unit which is one of the biggest Alstom hydro factories. This new part of the project will be concluded in December 2016.

Alstom signed its first contract for the Santo Antonio hydro plant in 2008 with a scope of 19 turbines and 22 generators as well as the IMMA scope of 100% of the hydromechanical and lifting equipment. Today 40 % of this first scope is already concluded and successfully operating.

Alstom Bulb units provide the most efficient solution when faced with heads of up to 30 metres. With more than 300 Bulbs installed worldwide, Alstom has outstanding knowledge and experience in design, manufacturing, installation, commissioning and management of complex Bulb projects, whatever the environmental conditions.

With more than 100 years of experience in this market, Alstom hydro turbines and generators installed worldwide represent more than 25% of the total hydro power capacity today. Alstom has been present in Brazil for almost 60 years and is responsible for almost 30% of the power generation market in the country.
