Alstom installs signalling systems in the extension and improvements of Line E
June 6, 2019 – The installation and validation of Alstom signalling system at the three new stations of Line E of the Buenos Aires Metro (SBASE) was successful completed. The new segment of the line extends two more kilometers to the north, connecting the south of the city with Retiro, a nerve center of transshipment.
The project contracted by SBASE includes the extension of the signalling system based on CMT-MUX technology to operate the three new stations (Catalinas, Correo Central and Retiro). In the last phase of the project, performance improvements will also be implemented across the line to increase the trains frequency.
The CMT MUX signalling system is a modern and consolidated system provided by Alstom Brazil and its technology allows the company to increase its possibilities of providing service with a shorter travel time. With efficiency, it demonstrates excellent results in four lines in the Buenos Aires metro (A, B, D and E), which is why the customer has relied on Alstom to extend and improve its current signalling systems.
"We are celebrating this new expansion of the Buenos Aires Metro for Line E, so expected by all passengers and also by Alstom, which incorporates our state-of-the-art signalling system. We are proud of our customer's trust in our experience and we continue to bet on transforming the Argentine transportation system," said Ernesto Garberoglio, General Manager of Alstom Argentina.
Line E is one of the six metro lines in Buenos Aires and transports more than 90,000 passengers per day. For the first time since its opening in 1944, 20 kilometers of tracks were renovated between the current Bolívar (in Plaza de Mayo) and Plaza de los Virreyes, in Flores. From this extension, passengers will be able to combine with line B at Correo Central station, and with line C and the train system, Belgrano Norte, San Martin and Miter, in Retiro. Users will benefit from the extension of the segment, which will add up to 63,000 more passengers and less travel time.
Alstom is present in Argentina since 1993 and supplies metro cars and signaling systems, as well as the maintenance and modernization of the metro and rail lines of Buenos Aires. It has also been involved in the maintenance and modernization of locomotives and cars for cargo and passenger services on the railway network.
