What’s your job title and what do you do?
I am the Site Supplier Quality Manager for Alstom’s Thunder Bay manufacturing site in Ontario, Canada. I work with my team to ensure our assembly lines are fed with conforming parts and products. We focus specifically on vendor-parts from non-Alstom vendors all around the world. We are experts at problem solving, deploying incoming inspection strategies, and working with vendors and internal stakeholders, like Product Development, Engineering, Manufacturing, Production, Industrial and Logistics teams.
Why is your job important for the business and customers?
Ensuring parts going into our operations are conforming, is critical to the business. We secure the quality of our products. Good and conforming parts help ensure our operations are more efficient, and supports providing the world-class rail products our customers and their passengers expect from Alstom.
Can you share a little bit about your career before working in rail?
I had a long career in the Oil and Gas industry where my last role was a Principal Reservoir Engineer in one of the biggest assets in Norway. I supported the development of multiple world class deepwater assets in Africa and the North Sea (Offshore Norway). One of my roles was to carry out 3D simulations to support robust investment decisions for asset planning, considering the complex risks and uncertainties related to our operations.
What inspired you to apply to Alstom without rail experience?
In today's world, climate and sustainability are important topics for public discourse. Joining Alstom, felt like a truly positive and impactful decision, and I am thrilled to have embarked on this journey.
How have your transferable skills enhanced your career across different industries?
Transferable skills, knowledge, and experiences are critical in today’s world and may support your success in new or different industries. I believe having transferable skills from a different industry was a win-win for myself and Alstom. An Oil and Gas industry background gave me a different perspective which has helped to broaden the conversation and how we approach problem solving. Organizations are looking for diversity especially in leadership, thought and perspective. I believe this coupled with transferable skills can help organizations accelerate growth, improvements, and innovation.
