April 17, 2024 - Alstom, a global leader in smart and sustainable mobility, has signed a new contract with Transport Reordering Office (OPRET) to manufacture, supply and put into service eight (8) new Metropolis family trains of three (3) cars each, to serve on Line 2C of the Santo Domingo Metro. The new contract, fully financed with a credit from the Central American Bank of Economic Integration (BCIE), marks a further milestone of Alstom’s presence in the Dominican Republic and its commitment to the development of mobility in the country, where the company is pioneering innovative transport solutions that allow to offer a safer, more efficient and sustainable transport.

Line 2C of the Santo Domingo Metro covers a stretch of 7.3 kilometers and the construction of five stations, which will be part of the integrated transport system Metro - Teleférico de Santo Domingo; extends from the María Montez station on Luperón Avenue to the new station Los Alcarrizos, with an underground section of 900 meters long and another elevated of 6.45 kilometers. This extension will raise the quality of life of residents of neighboring sectors, as it will facilitate the flow of some 22,850 vehicles that transit the Duarte highway on working days.

"Alstom is proud that OPRET has once again relied on our technology and ability to supply trains for this important expansion project of OPRET services in Santo Domingo."

Iván Moncayo
General Manager of Alstom in the Dominican Republic

The new trains will be manufactured at the Alstom industrial plant in Santa Perpetua, Barcelona,   and will be able to operate in multiple units, that is to say coupled with each other or with other trains of the fleet that today operate in the Santo Domingo Metro system, allowing greater flexibility to adapt capacity to passenger demand.

"Alstom is proud that OPRET has once again relied on our technology and ability to supply trains for this important expansion project of OPRET services in Santo Domingo. When the extension of Line 2C is operational and with the arrival of these new contracted with Alstom, the Santo Domingo Metro will have a fleet of 72 Alstom Metropolis trains, operating Lines 1 and 2. This will guarantee a modern mass transport, safe and quality for the benefit of the inhabitants of Santo Domingo," said Iván Moncayo, General Manager of Alstom in the Dominican Republic.

Likewise, these trains will have a new design of driving desk that will be integrated with the other elements of the cab and a DDU (Display Driver Uninstalle) of last generation.

Since 2009, Alstom has a presence in the Dominican Republic and has contributed to the consolidation and growth of the Santo Domingo Metro, both in the provision of rolling stock and in the maintenance of the fleet.
