Metro line 1: First new Alstom train delivered to Collegno depot

• The train will feature high comfort, new technologies, great accessibility and environmental sustainability

3 July 2025 - The first of the planned four new Metropolis “Boa” trains to implement the current fleet was delivered today to the new workshop in Collegno.

The Alstom trains will already be equipped with the new automation system and will enter into service at the same time as the activation of the new signalling and train running control system (CBTC) currently being implemented. The remaining trains will be delivered by 2025.

The new trains feature four intercommunicating carriages, greater comfort, improved accessibility and ease of movement from one car to another. Each carriage is equipped with a dedicated area for passengers with reduced mobility and a video surveillance system connected in real time with the command and control post. The carriages are well-lit and functional, thanks to innovative LED linear lighting and multimedia screens that will allow for the dissemination of graphic as well as acoustic information.

Great attention has been paid to sustainability. The new trains are 96% made of recyclable materials and are equipped with high-performance engines, improving their energy efficiency and reducing consumption, which is good for the environment.

The livery recalls the distinctive colours of the city of Turin: yellow and blue on a white background.

The trains come from the Alstom site in Valenciennes Petite Foret in France, where they were entirely manufactured; the supply is part of the contract - currently being executed - worth EUR 156 million, which also includes the supply of the new, fully automatic CBTC signalling system of the latest generation and the upgrade of the on-board automatisms of the existing rolling stock, which Infra.To has put in place for the extension of Line 1 to “Cascine Vica”.

In order to meet the overall need for train availability resulting from the extension of the track, first as far as Bengasi stop and then in the future as far as Cascine Vica one, the city of Turin has for some time now submitted a request to the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport (MIT) for funding for an additional EUR 150 million for the purchase of 12 additional trains with similar characteristics (+ EUR 58 million for accessory and complementary works).
