Alstom and Politecnico di Bari together for the mobility of the future through research, innovation, and training

11 February 2026 – Alstom, a global leader in smart and sustainable mobility, and Politecnico di Bari have signed a two-year framework agreement to launch joint activities in research, technological development, and training. The agreement aims to enhance local talents and strengthen the company’s investments in the regions where it operates, promoting the development of skills for the future.

At national level in Italy, the agreement promotes the growth of multidisciplinary projects and the implementation of shared initiatives to address the technological challenges of the railway sector and industrial innovation, actively involving Politecnico students and young researchers through internships, training programs, advanced educational activities, and research support. In this context, Alstom’s Railway Signalling Product Line plans to expand resources at its Bari site as well, recruiting highly specialized profiles in Cybersecurity, Project Engineering, Test & Commissioning, Safety Assurance, and Software Engineering.

The new agreement is part of Alstom’s strategy to support research and training in Italy through collaborations with schools, technical institutes (ITS), universities, and master’s programs nationwide. This commitment translates into specialist courses, internships, scholarships, and school-to-work programs, in synergy with trade associations and industrial partners, to foster the growth of the railway sector and create opportunities for talent and communities.

Alstom has a presence in Puglia through its Bari site, which today employs over 100 professionals, a number that has doubled in recent years. Here, in collaboration with other Italian sites, the team develops advanced solutions for railway signalling systems and is involved in around 40 cybersecurityprojects across Europe, thanks to specialized expertise that integrates cybersecurity throughout the entire product lifecycle. Additionally, 6 regional depots are active in the area for the maintenance of regional trains and locomotives, ensuring support, continuity, and operational efficiency for railway operators.
